Lodestone Energy becomes New Zealand’s newest electricity retailer
Lodestone Energy, the market leader in utility-scale solar generation, has made an important move to get closer to its customers by becoming New Zealand’s newest electricity retailer.
As a retailer, Lodestone will simplify the delivery of its innovative Virtual Rooftop Solar solution and have the ability to retail certified solar electricity directly to a wider range of customers.
“Our customers value working directly with Lodestone, and with some of our contracts with major electricity users lasting 20 years, we could see that building a close relationship from the beginning was the right decision,” says Gary Holden, Lodestone’s Managing Director.
This move is coming at a time when the role of energy retailing is under review by the government and the Electricity Authority. With electricity prices continuing to rise, there is increasing demand for greater competition and improved pricing transparency for consumers.
Holden added, “We understand the importance of new competition and we are keen to make a difference. Our goal of delivering affordable solar directly to customers can influence other retailers to follow suit and drive the energy transition, therefore benefiting everyone.
Becoming a retailer has its challenges, and it’s a bold move, but we believe it will become a key part of squeezing coal and gas out of the retail electricity price.”
Inghams New Zealand, which officially onboarded with Lodestone this month, will be the first customer to utilise its new services. Inghams signed a 20-year agreement for Lodestone’s solar-backed energy solution, which will support its emission reduction targets, while securing competitive long-term pricing.
For now, Lodestone remains focused on serving the commercial and industrial market, building on its current portfolio, which includes iconic brands The Warehouse Group and Inghams New Zealand.
Lodestone has partnered with Robotron New Zealand Limited, a leading provider of energy management systems, to deliver a comprehensive solution that allows Lodestone to meet the regulatory standards required for a Type 1 Retailer.
The success of this project underscores the ability of Robotron’s software to streamline energy retailers’ operations and accelerate their growth in a rapidly evolving market.
Lodestone has three operational solar farms in the North Island, a fourth under construction in Whitianga and additional projects in development. As an authorised retailer, Lodestone is positioned to capitalise on growth and better serve its customer base as it drives New Zealand’s renewable energy future forward.
