Ending the year on a high: Lodestone wins NZ Compare Supreme Award
Tuesday 10th December 2024
Lodestone is ending the year on a high having been awarded NZ Compare’s Supreme Award ‘Making a Difference’ last week.
These Awards celebrate the service and delivery of Broadband, Power and Mobile services providers around New Zealand.
The Supreme Award recognises a NZ provider (from any sector) who is making a difference within their industry, community, or amongst peers by leading positive change and inspiring others to follow suit.
How is Lodestone ‘Making a Difference’?
Lodestone was recognised for its leadership and accomplishments in delivering a new source of clean renewable energy through the development of utility-scale solar farms around New Zealand.
This comes at a critical time when New Zealand is facing a future of increasing demand through electrification as it tackles carbon reduction targets.
Lodestone’s farms which generate clean, renewable solar energy, are being developed across regional New Zealand. The delivery of its projects is adding economic value through job creation and upskilling opportunities in a prospering solar industry. Longer term, the farms are building local energy resilience within communities which often rely on a distant source of electricity.
The farms are low impact, make minimal noise, require little water and have a relatively light footprint on the land. By adopting an agrivoltaics approach to the solar array design, the land can continue to support agricultural activities, preserving its productive value.
The solar energy generated by the farms is also solving broader challenges within the business community. Lodestone’s Virtual Rooftop Solar solution is enabling high-energy users to more rapidly decarbonise their operations while securing long term price certainty. Customers can advance their carbon reduction plans, reduce dependencies on costly carbon credits and plan ahead with greater certainty.
Achievements and recognition:
2024 has been an incredibly positive year for the company having successfully commissioned its first two farms, with two more under construction and many more in planning. By the end of 2025, Lodestone will be generating enough solar energy to power the equivalent of ~45,000 New Zealand households.
This award follows several others over the course of the year, which reflect on both the outcomes achieved by the company as well as its innovation, leadership and design ethos. Other recognitions awarded in 2024 include:
- Sustainable Business Awards – Winner of ‘2024 Disruptive Innovation’
- Building Nations Impact Award – Winner of ‘2024 Infrastructure Decarbonisation’
- Energy Excellence Awards – Finalist in three categories for Low Carbon Future Award, Energy Project of the Year, Young Energy Professional of the Year
